A hundred years ago, when ferries were the only way to get from the mainland of Miami, across Biscayne Bay, to Miami Beach, there was Joe's. What started as a fish shack in the front of Joe and Jennie Weiss' small beach cottage, became the second highest grossing restaurant in the country, and a dining destination for movie stars, mobsters, politicians and even royalty. Joe's Stone Crab, where no reservations are ever taken, and a 2-3 hour wait is the norm. Joe's, where the average waiter has been serving customers for 30 years.
This is their story – the history of Miami Beach as seen through the eyes of the waiters, some who have been Waiting at Joe's for nearly half a century.
